Concussion Treatment

Concussions are complex injuries with a broad spectrum of symptoms and disabilities. Concussions occurs when a sudden trauma damages the brain. A concussion can also be called mild traumatic brain injury or an acquired head injury. At my practice, I offer a chiropractic neurologist approach to concussion treatment.

Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Concussion TreatmentA Concussion Injury is caused when the head suddenly and violently hits an object, when the head is powerfully jolted or shaken, or when an object pierces the skull and enters brain tissue. Brain tissue damage on MRI or CAT scan is not required to be diagnosed with a Concussion. It is very important to have any injury diagnosed properly in order to receive the proper concussion treatment.

The easiest way to diagnosis a concussion is with the history. The description of the injury and the symptoms usually give way to the diagnosis of a mild traumatic brain injury. To diagnosis physiological (functional) problems resulting from a Concussion the patient should have a very complete and comprehensive bedside Neurological Examination. Most patients do not receive a Neurological examination, and this will decrease their success with therapy in many cases. MRI and CAT scans can pinpoint actual tissue damage in the brain if necessary.

Because of the complexity of the brain and its physiology (function), a physician or therapist treating Concussions should be highly trained in NEUROLOGY. The PROBLEM with treatment in most TBI cases is due to physicial therapist and occupational therapist only receives 3-6 credit hours of Neurology in their training. Most Medical Physicians and patients are not aware of this fact. OBVIOUSLY, this is not enough to help the patient with a serious concussion reach maximum improvement. Therefore the quality of their lives are compromised and in many cases told they have to live with various neurological disabilities.

Then you have not responded well to traditional physicial or occupational therapies for your concussion, your improvement has come to a standstill, or you are no longer satisfied with your present care.
