ADD and ADHD Conditions and Treatment
ADD and ADHD briefly explained
ADD/ADHD are brain-based disorders. They both affect children’s ability to concentrate and each of them can present different symptoms. In some cases, children can present symptoms of both disorders. They are distinguishable, however.
ADD is diagnosed if a child under age 16 has 6 or more symptoms of inattention for at least 6 consecutive months but no signs of hyperactivity/impulsivity.
ADHD can interfere with your child’s everyday activities at home and at school. Kids who have it have trouble paying attention and controlling their behavior and are sometimes hyperactive.
The conventional therapy for ADD/ADHD and other childhood developmental disorders is a combination of medication, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), physical therapy, speech therapy, and social skills training. Read more about the ineffectiveness of this conventional treatment on our ADD/ADHD bog post. A brief breakdown is below.
There is a somewhat recent and growing epidemic of compromised (poor functioning) brains in our children below 17 years of age.
Here are a few of the numbers:
- 20% of children below the age of 17 have been diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder and are on some type of anti-anxiety or psychotic medications(s).
- 10% of the children between the ages of 8-16 have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD.
- 1 in 68 children in the United States have been diagnosed with an autism disorder and the numbers are growing fast!
Modern neuroscience has known for years that childhood developmental disorders are “SYSTEMIC BODY DISORDERS” that affects both the brain and the body. Childhood developmental disorders are NOT due to “Genetics” or “Bad Parenting” as often thought in conventional medical & psychological circles.
What does work well?
ALL IN ONE CARE
I perform all the examinations and treatment personally in my office. You do not have multiple therapists or people (with little or no training in brain function & neurology) working with your child and not communicating with one another.
PROBLEM DIRECTED CARE
The therapies performed by most clinicians are for the most part symptom directed and not problem directed. This in part is due to their lack of neurological training. My therapy is problem directed and develops positive brain neuroplasticity. I do my best with 700+ hours of training in neurology and 45,000 hours of clinical experience over the past 23 years to get your children’s brain well and keep them well.
CUSTOMIZED & INDIVIDUALIZED BRAIN THERAPY
Many people treating these conditions say their therapy is customized and individualized but when you take a closer look, they are all receiving the same therapy. No two patients receive the exact same therapy in my office.
THE ABOVE THREE REASONS ARE WHY I HAVE SUCH GREAT SUCCESS WITH MY PATIENTS.
You may think “I HAVE TRIED IT ALL,” but until you have tried BRAIN BASED FUNCTIONAL NEUROLOGY for your child, you have not “tried it all.
